Optional board for Sound Blaster Live!, the SB Digital I/O Bracket III provides digital connections for external digital devices such as DAT, minidisc, digitally enabled receivers, etc.  Dolby Digital(tm) signals may be passed from computer DVD players to home theater systems for full 5.1 AC-3 Surround Sound.  Also provided is 4-Channal Digital Outputs for an optional Hoontech 96kHz 24-bit 4CH S/PDIF Digital Amplifier or SoundTrack external 96kHz 24-bit DAC Boxes.   Please ask if more info is desired about these optional Hoontech boxes.  Also available is an external box that provides microphone preamps as well as higher quality external ADC/DAC's.

The SB DB III requires no device drivers and couldn't be easier to install, following the simple instructions on the included instruction sheet.

Connectors:

1. AES/EBU In/Out
Connects to the AES/EBU connectors of professional digital devices.  Contact us to order AES/EBU XLR adapter cables @ $12 per pair or just type it in the comment box as CA1@$12 when you place your online order.  These are always in stock and provide standard male XLR out and female XLR in.

2. Coaxial-In/Out
Connects to the RCA connector of external digital devices.

3. Optical-In/Out
Connects to the Optical connector of  external digital devices with an optical cable.  Contact us for availability, lengths, and pricing of optical cables (several lengths in stock).

4. 4-Pin Connecter
Using the provided cable, connect to the CA18-2  interface board (4-pin connector), and connect that to SB Live. Be sure to see note at bottom of page about CT and SB series of SB Live cards.

5. CD digital IN
Input connector for the 2-pin wire cable from the digital-output of the CD-ROM drive.

6. Dual Coaxial Out
Outputs S/PDIF signals of SB Live "Front and Rear" audio signals to a S/PDIF Digital Amp or other external digital devices.  Many users may discard this part or save for optional future use. "Front" RCA connector provides the same stereo signal as the RCA output on the main SB DB III part.

7. 3-Pin Connector
Connects the Dual Coax S/PDIF part to the 3-pin connector of the CA18-2 SB Live interface board using the the 3-pin wire cable provided.

 Contents of box:

  • ST DIGITAL I/O III board for Sound Blaster Live.
  • SB LIVE! interface board CA18-2 (connects to all CTxxxx models).
  • S/PDIF Digital Amp interface board. Can mount on blank bracket (ask us) or in a D-SUB type port opening "knockout" if PC case has one. Can also be unplugged from CA18-2 and left out if desired.
  • 3x3, 4x4-pin wire cables.
  • Instruction Pamphlet

Remarks:

Digital output frequency depends on the SB Live! exclusively. Since the digital output from the SB Live is fixed at 48kHz only, the recording operation to external mini-disc or DAT devices supporting 44.1KHz depends on the device being able to do sample rate conversion. Please check that your minidisc recorder does SRC.

This interface can also be used to feed the Hoontech  S/PDIF 4 Channel Digital Amplifier or external DAC boxes.

Important Notes:

The new CA18-2 connector of the SB DB III was designed to work with every model of SB Live but now Creative Labs makes some incompatible OEM models used by companies such as Dell and other computer manufacturers.  Please check that the model number of your SB Live starts with a "CT" such as a CT4830 or any CTxxxx.  If model starts with "SB" such as the SB0200 or SB0220, it does not have the correct pin-header to accept the CA18-2 connector of the SB DB III.

Again, only the CTxxxx models will work with the SB DB III.
